Quick Thoughts

Here are a couple of guys who I think are still good players and good fantasy options, but I think will take a step back due to other mitigating factors.  Desean Jackson, who is an immense talent, will not put up the crazy numbers he has been due to Maclin, Celek, McCoy and now Steve Smith becoming more integral parts of the offense.  McCoy and Maclin really started to take off in the latter part of the season and I only expect that to be more of the case.  Jackson will still have a few of those crazy games where he just goes off though, just not as often as in the past.  Hakeem Nicks will have a quieter year as he will face a lot more double teams now that Eli Manning's security blankets Kevin Boss and Steve Smith have moved on.  This will also make Mario Manningham a much better option, I would keep him on my bench in fantasy until he becomes the consistent receiver I expect.  Miles Austin will start to decline a bit as Dez Bryant will become a top receiver this year, leaving Austin to still make a good amount of receptions just don't expect the touchdown production.

If you are the New Orleans Saints and are going to try and run it from the one against a much better defensive line, at least put in Pierre Thomas who is lighter and might be able to get a little bit more vertical.  Honestly, as has already been pointed out ad nauseam, they should have kept it in Brees' hands and let him throw the ball against the Green Bay defense.

Lasty, I just wanted to pat myself on the back as although everybody knew coming into this season that the Packers had a very good offense, not too many people were talking about this draft pick in the mid rounds that they made.

Day 2 of the NFL Draft Opinions

I have to start out by apologizing to the Bengals as they did the smart thing and took Andy Dalton, instead of going with the strong armed Mallett who fell all the way to #75, where he ends up being a great value for the Patriots.  Dalton was the right move for the Bengals as they have such an image issue, where they could not have taken a flyer on Mallett.  Amazingly the Bengals look to be having a solid draft as they pick up one of the best wide receivers and a decent quarterback at a good spot.

- Not sure what Harbaugh is doing picking Colin Kaepernick at #36, but he knows quarterbacks so he must see something.  I felt it was a bit early for a team that needs other positions but it is possible there was nobody else he liked at that spot.  I would have traded down and picked up another pick in the process, don't think Kaepernick would have come off the board until early round 3.  On another note, Kaepernick seems like a super kid and I hope the best for him but I am always cautious of a quarterback that ran for 4,000 yards out of the pistol offense in the WAC.

- My value picks for the second day are Akeem Ayers, who is flat out a good football player.  He wasn't great at the combine but he can play and I was surprised not to see him go in the first round.  Da'Quan Bowers dropped to #51, well the Bucs just landed a very good player.  He has a knee issue that I feel is overblown  as he led the nation in sacks last year playing through it.  At any rate even if he missed some time up to a year, this is a great talent and a huge value at this spot.  Marvin Austin went to the Giants and this is a big pick up.  As always the Giants are having a very good draft as great picks keep falling to them deep.

-  Randall Cobb just made Green Bay a very scary offense, enough said.

-  Leonard Hankerson went to the Redskins and I think that he could be a great value at this spot, not sure if he is ready to run NFL routes.  Oh yeah and I have no idea who is going to throw him the ball as they haven't got a quarterback yet.  Then again Rex Grossman has had a couple of good games in the last decade.

- Not sure the Cowboys need a running back because they have drafted them fairly high the last few years, but Demarco Murray is a very good one that nobody is talking about.  If he can stay healthy he could be a nightmare for this league as he is big, strong and fast.

That is all I have from day 2, we shall see what awaits over the weekend.
