The time has come for the playoffs and time to predict what will happen on this opening weekend of the NFL tournament. The first thing I will predict is that there will be an exciting game, a pretty good game and 2 fairly boring games. Here is a hint both AFC games are the boring ones. As much as people want to talk about Tebow Time, even when he pulled a rabbit out of the hat, the games were pretty unwatchable for about three and a half quarters. Let us move on to tomorrow's games.
The first game of the day has the Bengals traveling to Houston, where for the first time in the history of the league there will be two rookie quarterbacks battling against each other. This is the toughest game in my opinion to pick a winner as they are very evenly matched teams. Houston is playing some great defense right now, but the way they have been playing offense as of late could make it very difficult to advance in the playoffs. Cincinnati has a good defense as well but I think the Texans open up the play book tomorrow as I am pretty sure Gary Kubiak realizes if he wants to win, he needs to be able to pass the ball. This will open up the running game and Arian Foster will get 100 all purpose yards at the minimum. I like the Texans to win this game. Not sure about them being favored by 4 points as I would usually stay away from this game from a gambling perspective.
Tomorrow night is the game that I really want to see as another first will happen with two 5,000 yard passers will be playing against each other. Quite the opposite of the early game tomorrow. Matt Stafford, who threw for 41 touchdowns on top of 5,000 yards was rarely talked about with all of the great seasons being had by quarterbacks this season. Most years, this would have been good enough to be an MVP candidate. Drew Bree's is having a great season as well as you have heard enough about. The Saints are pretty much unbeatable at home this season and I don't think it changes much tomorrow. Although I would love to see the Lions win this game I do not think it is in the cards for them. They are favored by ten and they will probably cover. I would rather do a three team tease with the Bengals, Saints and a team to include from Sunday's games, Most likely the Giants who are giving 3. The Steelers scare me because of their injuries and the luck that has fallen upon Tebow, who knows what will happen.
So let's hope that they are better games than I expect and hopefully we will see some fireworks from TJ Yates and company as there is no room for cowards anymore. There is no shame in losing, so go out swinging Mr. Kubiak.
